Learning Line Up for the Week of May 14-18

We have an exciting week ahead filled with many special events.  On Thursday morning from 7:35-8:10 we have our Volunteer Breakfast.  We have been so fortunate to have so many wonderful volunteers this year.  I hope you can join us in thanking you for all your help throughout the year.

Friday we have our spring concert at Stonegate.  Please check the music canvas page for times.  This is always a special event.  I look forward to seeing you at the kids’ performances.  Special thank you to our amazing music teachers on a great year of learning.

Our Santiago Hills library closed on Friday for the year, and all library books should be returned by this Friday.  Thank you for looking around the house for any books and for getting them turned in as soon as possible.

We have a busy week of learning to look forward to as well.  Students are diving into their investigation of child labor in reading.  We will be investigating the history, the effects, and then as a final component of this year’s Kindness Project, we will look to see what positive steps we can take in ending child labor. The kids are very motivated and excited about this work.

We have begun our poetry study, and students are composing some amazing poems.  Please save the date, June 1st from 8:10-9:15 to join us for our Poetry Cafe.

In math, we are making great progress with our Hands-On Equations Algebra unit.  Students have been enjoying the activities and growing tremendously as algebraic thinkers.  This week we are eager to begin our Stock Market Unit as well.  Look for math review to come home this week and next.

This week students will begin working on their 20th century innovations project as we examine how inventions created from 1900-2000 changed our state and our county.

Students got back their outlines today and will be composing their TED talk throughout the week as part of class work and homework.  Images that will be used for the presentation are due tomorrow.  Students should plan to share their Google slides or print out their images for feedback.
